My husband and I own a small farm in Western Pennsylvania.  We have several horses of our own and board a few as well.  My dear sweet Warmblood gelding, which I had owned for 17 years, had to be put down (old age) at the end of summer, 2005.  This horse has a left a wealth of wonderful memories for me and all of my family!

After months had passed, I started thinking about trying to find that "warmblood type".  You know the type:  great disposition, great confirmation, solid, steady & can do just about anything you ask!  Unfortunately, trying to afford a warmblood when you are raising a family is not practical.  It was by chance that I did some searching on the Internet & came across Lois and Deerhorn Equine Ranch.  What a find!!  Honestly, I thought:  How can anyone purchase a foal without seeing he or she in person?  But, let's face it.....  Buying any foal, from anyone, or even breeding your own is such a risk.

I think the most important thing for a buyer is to research, read testimonials, and/or talk to former customers.  Deerhorn Ranch has a terrific testimonial page, a very user-friendly website & a knowledgeable staff.  If you are looking for a foal for a certain discipline, contact Lois!  She will match you up with the foal of your dreams.  I contacted Lois looking for a possible Sport Horse.  I believe that is exactly what I got!  I purchased Sileca's 2006 filly.  She is now 1 1/2 yrs. Old.  At 15.1 hh, she is starting to blossom into the sport horse I had hoped for.....  And- I don't think there is a sweeter filly anywhere.  "Shelby" cross ties, stands for the farrier/vet & of course loves to be loved.  She has one of the best dispositions of any horse I have ever owned.

If you are searching for that special horse to add to your life, contact Lois at Deerhorn Equine Ranch.  I can promise you, you will not be sorry!  I am available to answer any questions.

Many people thought I had flipped my lid buying a horse online from thousands of miles away.  However, from the moment my 2004 Radar filly arrived, I knew I had made the right decision.  Fiona, was healthy, had a relaxed temperment, a calm presence, and would eat grass from our hand the very first day - though loading her on the trailer was a chore! Now at 2 years old, she is a gorgeous, 16h blue roan who gets "oohs" and "ahhs" whereever we go.  My farrier never ceases to be impressed, nor have I, at what a quick learner she is and so eager to please.  I can not thank Lois and her family enough for allowing us to bring this special girl into our family. - Marci McCosh, Jacksonville, Florida

I came across this beautiful, warmblood filly on the internet last Summer (2005) and knew she just had to be mine.  She was by the stallion “Radar” out of a beautiful chestnut mare.  I’d never bought a horse over the internet but decided to take the chance.  Lois was very helpful in answering any and all questions I had and sending additional photos to me before I purchased.  When “Nadia” arrived last November I just could not believe how beautiful she was nor how calm and quiet she was.  She has readily accepted everything I have introduced her to and learns new things with ease.  As a yearling she is over 14.2 hands tall with nice bone and promise of MUCH more growth.  Her confirmation is perfect and she is just a dream to work with.  I truly appreciate Lois and her family for breeding such sound minded and correct horses.  Her pursuit of the perfect horses has definitely brought forth some up and coming stars in all areas of equine riding from dressage and eventing to western pleasure and working horses. - Angela Wall, Winston Salem, North Carolina

There are not enough words to say how nice Lois's foals are. My family has had the pleasure of having 4 of her foals. They have all turned out to be exactly as she described them. As you can see from the pictures, Bayou (2003 model) is truly "perfect. He is known around our farm as "Bayou the WonderHorse". His personality has been calm since the moment he arrived. The first picture was taken June 10, 2006 while at the trainers. This is the second time my husband has ridden him. Bayou's trainer wanted to know if there are any siblings available in his"line." She believes he has an amazing career in dressage. Sadly for her, he will be doing the hunter circuit with my husband. We would highly recommend any of Deerhorn Equine Ranch foals!!! Anyone vacationing at the Jersey Shore can feel free to stop by and visit our Deerhorn Equine Ranch horses. We are located 25 minutes from the ocean. Feel free to email us at tallyhofarm@verizon.net

Feel free to mention that we have 2 other PAT babies that are just as wonderful and are very much like their half brother.

I have purchased 3 lovely foals and a 2 year old from Lois at Deerhorn Ranch. I have been truly pleased with each and every one of them. Just as important to me is the assistance I have received from Lois in selecting just the right horses for me. Her honest and genuine desire to match the right person with the right horse is rarely seen in the business.

I had the opportunity to go visit Deerhorn Ranch and to see the horses in their natural environment, running on hundreds of acres as nature intended. My experience spending time with the mares, stallions and foals in this environment was amazing. Last year I was able to select my foals right from the field as they ran and played. I have also selected horses from photos and assistance from Lois with equally good results.

Lois knows every horse on her ranch intimately and can read each foal and sense their personality and potential talent with amazing accuracy. Her solid breeding stock produce wonderful-natured horses with good conformation for every discipline. Her experience and uncanny "horse sense" will guide you in selecting the best horse for your needs.  I highly recommend Lois as an equine rancher. Her horses are well cared for, and are solid, top quality breeding stock.

I live in western Washington and would welcome anyone who would like to visit and see the horses I have purchased from Lois. Please feel free to contact me at skipastory@aol.com I'm pleased to answer any questions regarding my wonderful horses or my buying experience -  Lyn Gross, Stanwood, Washington

I am thrilled with my beautiful 2005 colt by Radar. I spent hours looking at foals online (a little scary) but when my choice came home I knew it was the right one. Gibralter (Jib) is  truly a giant treasure for our family. At one year and 15h he is calm, willing and has a great personality. He is easy to handle, loves to be groomed and I have no trouble with his feet or anything else I want to do with him. I am amazed at how quickly he learns and dosen't forget what he has been taught!

Lois was very kind about answering my questions and even sent me updated photos without being asked. I am glad that Lois at Deerhorn Equine Ranch tries so hard to put together such beautiful animals. I look forward to purchasing another one of these wonderful horses in the future - KayDee Cullis - Yuma, Arizona

The first picture shows Killian (2005 L-6, Sneakers x Pat foal) walking right up for a hug about five minutes after he arrived from Canada.  He has remained this snuggly, and requires a hug every time he leaves his stall.  He gets along beautifully with his herd and takes direction from the herd "elders," yet he is playful and can really "air it out" when he runs. You didn't exaggerate when you said Pat throws intelligence into his foals.

The picture of three foals depicts Killian on the right, with Wyman and Molson (L 22 and 21, out of Radar), during quarantine.  Wyman and Molson have gone on to good homes and from all reports are growing strong and are very smart.

We also have a shot of Killian on his first trailer ride.  It took about three minutes to convince him the trailer was fun.  He has been very easy to train, whether it's been bending to put on a halter or bridle, being groomed, getting a bath, or loading on the trailer.  I suspect Pat throws very intelligent foals!

He works well with the vet, farrier and dentist, and loves the company of human visitors to his barn.

We adore this foal and heartily recommend your foals to others.  You have an excellent breeding program and the 6 foals shipped last year to Maryland purchasers (all of whom we know) arrived healthy and are doing great in their new homes. Thank you for the opportunity to own and work with Killian, a much-loved member of our family - Randy and Kim in Maryland

We have a 2004 foal sired by Radar and a 2005 foal by Sonny and they are just fantastic.  Both have the best temperments you could ask for and are really pretty movers!

Boo, the 2004 colt, has been amazingly sweet and easy going, from the time he stepped off the trailer.   So easy to work with, that the trainer I take him to for our groundwork lessons said he would make a phenomonal lesson horse due to his extremely tolerable attitude and sweet, forgiving disposition.   He tries so hard to do whatever you ask of him.  Currently he is ground driving, lunges, clips, trailers; is perfect for the farrier and my vet is in love with him.  He wears his saddle and bridle and ground drives in them perfectly.   I can't wait for him to mature to start riding him.  We are getting harness made to do some light driving meantime.  What a fabulous 'do it all' horse Boo is!!

Merle (short for (Merlin the Magician') is here to stay!!  We hadn't planned on keeping Merle for ourselves - two people do not need 7 horses!!  But he magically stole our hearts and cannot leave!  He is so sweet and put together so nicely!  He floats across the pasture - Pretty mover!  And is excellent for the vet and farrier!   He is very inquisitive and confident, treating the older geldings as though he is their equal.   Though he is very respectful to people and loves doing his groundwork exercises!

It is hard to believe we got so lucky with foals from different sires, so this farm just breeds good minded animals!!  And nice movers to boot!!

Velvet is a 2004 filly by Radar(TB/Perch) out of Wart (QH/Belgian), and has been with me from about 8 months of age. She is the type of horse everyone wishes for and rarely finds; great conformation, balanced, perfect rhythm and cadence, good looks, a kind eye, athletic, and highly trainable in several disciplines. When in a round pen or arena with jumps and or cavaletti, Velvet hunts the jumps at liberty! Just for fun, we set up a jump and  4 cavaletti’s grouped in two’s in the round pen. The minute Velvet walked into the round pen, she started picking her way through the cavs, not touching one of them, and free-jumped over the 3 ft. jump!  She trotted around several times without any encouragement from either of us. She loves to work!  Her first jumps show she is earnest and tries to please. She hunts the jumps like an old pro.

Added to all of her other attributes, Velvet also has the kindest disposition, a sweet, in-your-pocket 2 year old filly. If she’s this wonderful at two years old, I can’t wait to see her when she matures!!

Thank you, Lois, your breeding program has produced a true champion. Your horses are absolutely gorgeous and reflect well on you and your program! I have already referred you to several people and will continue to do so in the future.

Here are some pics of Velvet taken at the American Warmblood Society Inspection on July 22, 2006 in Walnut Creek, CA. Velvet placed 5th or 6th out of 18 horses entered.  Velvet did great, especially for a 2 yo that has never been broke to saddle. Velvet was designated Red Preferred and was branded.  Velvet is now 15.3 and still growing! I expect that she will mature to 16.2 hh. She is a lovely, sweet mare with a kind eye.  I couldn’t be happier with her.

Fondest Regards

We kept Ripple's Colt and Sneaker's colt together at our farm after arriving in Maryland.  Sneaker's Colt (now Guinness) is the full brother to a wonderful colt we got last year from Deerhorn Equine Ranch.  Both foals got off the trailer ready for touching grooming, hoof lifting and halter changing. They walked into a stall with no hestitation and have spent some time with our other horses.  We have had several PMU foals come through here over the last several years and these have got to be the fastest to adjust to our routine  yet.  Lois  - please keep up the good work.

In 2003, we obtained #O-13, a Doc X Spiff filly that we named "Mercy." She is a lovely dark bay mare with a white sock and roany little star. She is now trained and we started her over jumps this past spring. She is wonderful!

She is listed as a TBX on her Coggins papers, and her dam is also QH/Clydesdale; Mercy has the Big TB personality and looks, but it's packed into a strong little 15 hh body! Mercy will choose to go over jumps if she is let loose in the arena with them. No one has to tell her to do it, she just goes for the fun of it. We can ride her in just a halter and she is perfectly obedient. This mare loves to work! She is her happiest when she has a regular job, and tends to get into mischief if she is left out at pasture too long without human interaction and work. She loves water and climbs into our water troughs on hot summer days. She is well balanced, strong, healthy, with perfect feet that can be kept barefoot. This is a fun-loving, hard-working, beautiful mare that is absolutely wonderful, and she has tremendous potential.

I recommend these horses to anyone who is looking for a great mount.
